How to photograph and price your used garment listings for maximum sales

The single biggest driver of sales isn't price — it's photography. Here's how top-earning UK sellers shoot and price their listings.

We've looked at thousands of listings on Worn For You and one pattern is impossible to miss: sellers who spend 10 minutes on photography sell three to five times faster than sellers who use their camera roll. Pricing matters, but photography matters more. Here's the workflow the top 10% actually use.

The three-shot minimum

Every listing should have at least three photos:

  1. Flat lay — the item on a plain, neutral surface (a folded white bedsheet works).
  2. Worn — the item on the seller's body, framed above the ankles for socks or on the leg for leggings. No face required.
  3. Wear detail — a close-up of the sole, heel, or waistband showing genuine wear.

Top sellers add a fourth: the item mid-activity (gym floor, football pitch, work boots on). It's what buyers pay a premium for.

Lighting

Natural window light between 9am and 3pm beats every ring light and Instagram filter. Face your subject towards the window, phone camera on the other side, no flash. If the room is dim, the photo will look grey and buyers scroll past.

Background

Plain and neutral: white sheet, wooden floor, cream wall. Not your unmade bed, not a cluttered kitchen. Anything busy in the background pulls the eye away from the item.

Phone camera settings

Grid on, portrait mode off (it blurs the item), HDR on. Take five shots of each angle and pick the sharpest. Don't crop tight in the phone gallery — the platform re-crops for you and you'll lose detail.

Pricing — the fair-market approach

Look at the completed sales in your category over the last 30 days (not the asking prices — the sold prices). Price yours in the middle third. Under-priced looks suspicious; over-priced sits forever.

Once you have 10+ reviews, raise prices by 15–20% and see what happens. Reviews are the multiplier — the same listing with 20 reviews sells at almost twice the price of the same listing with two.

Descriptions that sell

Three sentences, in this order:

  1. What it is, size, brand.
  2. How long and where it was worn — the specific activity.
  3. Shipping speed and packaging.

Skip the filler. "Ships tomorrow in discreet Tracked 24 packaging" closes more sales than three paragraphs of flowery description ever will.
