How to sell used socks in the UK — full seller's guide
Verification, first listings, photography, pricing, discreet shipping and payouts — the complete workflow used by top UK sellers. Written for anyone starting from zero.
Step 1 — Get verified
Sign up, choose a public display name and complete the required 18+ age check — a quick online step that takes a few minutes. You must be 18 or over, and no listing can go live until your age check is approved. You also connect a payout account so earnings can reach your bank. Your legal name and verification records are never shown on your public profile.
Step 2 — Prepare your first 3 listings
Don't launch with one listing — buyers browse profiles, not single items. Prepare three pairs across two categories (e.g. two gym pairs + one everyday pair). It signals you're a real seller.
Step 3 — Photography that sells
Three photos minimum per listing: flat lay, worn, and a close-up of the sole showing genuine wear. Natural window light, plain background, phone camera in landscape. Full workflow in our photography & pricing guide.
Step 4 — Write honest descriptions
Three sentences: what it is (brand, size), how it was worn (activity, time), and shipping (packaging, dispatch time, tracked service). Skip the flowery filler. Specific detail signals honesty and honesty converts.
Step 5 — Price for reviews first
Start slightly below the market for your first 5–10 sales to build reviews fast. Once you have 10+ reviews, raise prices by 15–20%. Once you have 30+ reviews, price at the upper end of the market. Reviews are the multiplier.
Worn For You charges 25% commission on the item price, so you keep 75%. A £20 sale leaves you £15; a £40 sale leaves you £30. There is no monthly seller subscription and no fee to publish a listing.
Step 6 — Reply fast
Sellers who reply within an hour make roughly twice as many sales as sellers who reply within a day. Buyers are impulsive. Turn on push notifications and check twice a day at minimum.
Keep every conversation on Worn For You. Do not share phone numbers, social handles or off-site payment details: an on-platform record protects both sides if an order is reported.
Step 7 — Ship properly
Item in a clean, sealed inner bag inside a plain unmarked poly-mailer, sent with the pre-paid Royal Mail Tracked 48 label from your account. Post within 24–48 hours of the order. Tracking is added automatically from the label — buyers see it in their account.
Step 8 — Get paid
Buyers pay securely on-site at checkout. The platform commission is 25% of the item price and you keep 75%, transferred to your bank on a 7-day rolling schedule after you dispatch with the pre-paid tracked label. The schedule covers discreet tracked delivery and buyer receipt. Dispatch within 48 hours — an undispatched order is cancelled and the buyer refunded, so the 7 days only starts once the parcel is on its way. The buyer's £5.99 delivery fee covers the pre-paid tracked label you print at dispatch — you never pay postage yourself.
Step 9 — Build repeat buyers
Consistent listings, prompt dispatch and useful replies give buyers a reason to return. Reviews appear on your public seller profile after eligible completed orders, helping future buyers judge your track record. Recurring subscriptions are not currently offered.

Common first-90-days mistakes
- Only listing once and going quiet. Post weekly.
- Copying other sellers' listings. Buyers spot it instantly.
- Refusing to reply to buyer questions. It kills sales.
- Selling brand-new socks. The whole market is about wear time.
