Vinted, Depop & eBay banned worn garments — here's where UK sellers moved to

eBay, Depop, Vinted and Etsy all prohibit worn intimate garments. Here's exactly why, what happens when sellers try workarounds, and where the UK market moved instead.

Every few weeks someone posts in a sellers' group asking whether they can quietly list worn socks on Vinted, or "gently used" panties on Depop. The answer, in every case, is no — and the ban isn't new, it's been enforced harder every year since 2022. Here's the full policy picture and where the UK market actually operates now.

What each platform actually says

eBay

Prohibits "used underwear" and any item primarily sold for its worn condition under its Adult Only policy. Enforcement is automated — listings are usually removed within 24 hours and repeat offences trigger permanent account restriction.

Depop

Bans worn intimate items and "any item sold on the basis of prior wear". Depop's trust and safety team responds to reports quickly; try to relist and you lose the account.

Vinted

Explicitly prohibits worn intimate garments including socks marketed for wear time. Vinted's ML content scanning has become notably better at catching this in 2025–2026.

Etsy

Bans "used undergarments" under its Prohibited Items policy. Sellers occasionally slip through by mislabelling, but the account is closed on first report.

Why the bans exist

It's not a moral judgement — it's a payment-processor problem. Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Stripe treat worn intimate garments as adult content, which comes with higher chargeback rates and stricter compliance. Mainstream marketplaces don't want to run adult-content verification (age checks, extra KYC, adult-specific processor fees) alongside their general marketplace, so they ban the category rather than support it.

What happens when sellers try workarounds

  • "Just cotton briefs, size 10" — buyers can't find you and platform ML flags it anyway.
  • "Message me on Insta" — trust and safety report you, account closed.
  • "Worn once, might refund" — this euphemism is well known and actively scanned for.

Where UK sellers went instead

Dedicated adult-verified marketplaces that were built for this category:

  • Sole Obsession — socks-first UK marketplace.
  • Worn For You — UK marketplace covering socks, underwear and leggings under one verified platform.
  • All Things Worn — long-established UK/US platform.
  • Sofia Gray — US-headquartered, underwear-focused.

These platforms handle the age verification, adult-content payment processing, and discreet shipping that mainstream marketplaces refuse to touch — which is exactly why they exist. Our marketplace comparison hub covers each one side by side.
